  • To communicate with you: respond to enquiries, send order confirmations, delivery notices, account notifications and important service messages.

  • To detect and prevent fraud: to protect our customers, Services and business.

5. Legal basis for processing

Where applicable under UK data protection law (including the UK GDPR), our legal bases for processing personal data include:

  • Consent: where you have given consent (for example to receive marketing). You can withdraw consent at any time.

  • Contractual necessity: where processing is necessary to perform our contract with you (for example to fulfil an order).

  • Legal obligation: where required by law.

  • Legitimate interests: where we have a legitimate interest that is not overridden by your rights (for example to prevent fraud, to improve our Services, or to manage our business).

If you want more detail on the legal basis we’re relying on for a specific processing activity, contact us at info@jewellery-queen.co.uk.

6. Data sharing and disclosure (including Mailchimp)

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties. We may share personal information with the following categories of recipients:

Service providers and processors – third parties who perform services for us, such as: payment processors, website hosts, email and SMS delivery services, analytics providers, marketing automation platforms, and logistics and delivery partners. These providers only process personal data on our instructions and are contractually required to protect your information.

Mailchimp (email & marketing platform) – we use Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group, LLC) to manage and deliver our email campaigns, mailing lists and other marketing activities. When you subscribe to our newsletter or opt in to marketing, we share limited personal information (such as your name, email address, purchase data and marketing preferences) with Mailchimp so they can deliver messages and provide reporting. Mailchimp acts as a data processor on our behalf. See Mailchimp’s privacy resources for more details.

SMS providers – where we send SMS marketing/notifications we may use Mailchimp’s SMS functionality or other third-party SMS providers. These providers receive limited contact data (telephone numbers and message history) solely to deliver messages on our behalf.

Legal reasons – we may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests by public authorities (e.g., to meet national security or law enforcement requirements), or to protect our rights, property or safety or those of others.

Business transfers – in the event of a merger, sale, financing, or transfer of some or all of our assets, personal data may be transferred to the acquiring party (subject to appropriate protections).

7. Marketing communications (Mailchimp & SMS)

Mailchimp email marketing
We use Mailchimp to manage our email marketing lists and send newsletters and promotional emails. When you subscribe or opt in, we add your contact details to our Mailchimp audience so that we can send you marketing emails and track delivery and engagement (opens, clicks, bounces). Mailchimp may use recipient data to provide their services to us (e.g., analytics, deliverability) under a contract with us; they do not use your data for their own marketing purposes on our behalf unless you separately agree with them.

SMS messages
If you provide your mobile number and opt in to receive SMS messages, we may use Mailchimp’s SMS features or another SMS provider to send marketing or transactional messages (e.g., delivery updates, appointment reminders). SMS messages will include instructions on how to opt out (for example replying STOP), or you can contact us at info@jewellery-queen.co.uk to withdraw your consent.

Opting-out / withdrawing consent

  • To stop marketing emails, click the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.

  • To stop SMS messages, reply STOP to the message or contact us at info@jewellery-queen.co.uk.

  • Even if you opt out of marketing, we may still send you non-marketing messages (transactional messages such as order confirmations, delivery notices and customer service communications).

Third-party marketing
We will not share your personal data with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes without your explicit consent.

8. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to recognise you on return visits, improve site performance, and personalise content. Cookies may be set by us or by third-party partners (for example analytics or advertising providers). You can manage cookie preferences in your browser or via our cookie banner (if present). For more details about our use of cookies and how to opt out, see our Cookies Policy (if you have one), or contact info@jewellery-queen.co.uk and we’ll share details.

9. Retention of your data and deletion

We will not retain your personal information longer than is necessary for the purpose(s) for which it was collected, subject to our legal and regulatory obligations. Retention periods are determined by the nature of the data and our business needs (for example, financial records may be retained for accounting/tax purposes). If you wish to request deletion of your personal data, contact us at info@jewellery-queen.co.uk. We will respond to deletion requests in accordance with applicable law; please note legal or contractual obligations may require us to retain certain information.

10. International transfers and safeguards

Mailchimp and other service providers we use may process or store personal data in countries outside the United Kingdom, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we will ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (for example standard contractual clauses approved by the UK government, data processing agreements, or other lawful transfer mechanisms) to ensure an adequate level of protection for your personal data. If you would like more details about the safeguards we use for international transfers, contact info@jewellery-queen.co.uk.
